A word from Kathryn’s horse, Leo:

“Leo, the Lion-Hearted.” That is what Kathryn renamed me when I came to her barn. She said that I was a green ten-year-old and I was spooky with attitude. Because my sire was her Lippitt Morgan stallion, Equinox Royalty, with whom she had won many long-distance trail championships, she believed that there was a smart brain atop my athletic body.

In 2005, we completed the Vermont three-day, 100-mile trail ride at the Green Mountain Horse Association. For years following, we explored the trails on Mount Ascutney. During Covid, Kathryn began a horse-assisted therapy program. I loved helping the youngsters recognize anxiety, and listening and learning new life skills.

When Kathryn learned about the Century Club and that Western Dressage was offered at the Lippitt County Show, we both entered our very first dressage test. Now, I am taking care of 10-year-old Ava. She is learning balance and confidence in trail obstacles and the extended trot on the wood trails. Kathryn still smiles and calls me Leo, the Lion-Hearted.
