I have always loved horses, but I only had the opportunity to ride when I saw an ad in the local paper for a night school class for 10 lessons at Seaton Hackney Stables. I thought that after 10 lessons I would be able to ride and maybe even get a horse.  

Forty years later I am still taking lessons and no horse, but I have had the wonderful opportunity to ride many talented school horses. Each and every one has taught me a valuable lesson about riding or life in general and I have loved them all. 

Currently I am riding with Emily Foreman, and I have had the opportunity to ride Lauren Chumley’s horse Kissmit. Kissmit will be 34 years old on her next birthday.   

Kissmit and I believe that age is just a number, and it should not limit you from reaching your potential. Kissmit is still very competitive in the dressage arena. We took home three blue ribbons in the Alexandria Equestrian Association Dressage Show.  

When I can no longer swing a leg up into the saddle, I plan to increase the hours I spend doing equine massage, so I can give back a little to all the horses that have given me their heart and soul. They have made my life whole and introduced me to a world of wonderful people that I never would have met if it hadn’t been for horses.  

It was the greatest honor to be inducted into the Century Club.  It is never, ever too late to follow your dream.
