The Love Story of Sue & Marty

Sue Klonowski’s lifelong passion for horses spans the racetracks of Florida to saddle seat barns in Texas, but her heart belongs to the American Morgan Horse. Alongside her husband, Steve, Sue has owned and shown several Morgans over the decades. This year, she achieved a rare milestone: completing the Century Club ride at The Dallas Dressage Club Horse Show in Greenville, Texas, where the combined age of horse and rider must equal 100 or more.

Sue’s partnership with WSG Martinique (“Marty”) began in 2002 when she was encouraged to take him in after his owner’s terminal illness. Their bond grew strong, and Marty’s career flourished. In 2006, with Sue recovering from a car accident, Marty won the Classic Pleasure Championship at the Morgan Grand Nationals with trainer GiGi Norris. Sue returned to the saddle in 2007, and their successes continued, peaking in 2014 with wins at the Wheat State Horse Show and the prestigious USEF Regional Horse of the Year title.

After a ligament injury sidelined Marty, Sue shifted their focus to dressage, working with coach Kim Thornton to build strength and mechanics. The new discipline revitalized both horse and rider, keeping them active well into their golden years.

Sue, Steve, and Marty remain dedicated to learning and growth, attending horsemanship clinics and cherishing the support of their community. Their inspiring journey is a testament to resilience, partnership, and the enduring love of horses.
