Janet F. Roser, MS, PhD, was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and started riding when she was nine years old. Her riding career included being a head riding instructor at a summer camp in New Hampshire for several years and getting a Horsemanship certificate at a riding school in England. Dr. Roser graduated with a BS from the University of Vermont and a MS and PhD from the University of California, Davis.
In 1986 Dr. Roser became an assistant professor in the Department of Animal Science at UC Davis where she taught the equine science courses. She retired in 2015 and started a company, Fertilplus Partners, LLC. The company is currently developing a product that enhances fertility in mares.
During her time at the University, she taught two University Extension Courses: Tracking Wild Mustangs and Horsemanship in the Wilderness with the Rock Creek Pack Station out of Bishop, CA. While a professor at UC Davis, Dr. Roser started a yearly foal auction at the Animal Science Horse Barn. The foal auction sold yearlings that were bred by student interns. In 2001, Dr. Roser’s horse, UCD Sheza Cutter, was born at the barn. Dr. Roser bought Sheza at the 2002 foal auction, trained her as a two-year-old and started riding her Western as a three-year-old. After many years of trail riding, Dr. Roser started training Sheza as a Western Dressage horse. She just recently became a member of the Century Club. Hallelujah!!!
