Although I began riding on the trail at five, rode in an arena with large groups at eleven, and spent three summers at a horse ranch in Montana in my teens, my formal training did not begin until I moved to Hawaii in my early thirties. There was strong interest and expertise in dressage in Hawaii, including FEI levels, and I also became heavily involved with Pony Club.
We were fortunate to attract famous trainers from around the world because they all wanted to come to Hawaii to teach, so we had excellent instruction at least four to six times a year. I also became a dressage and eventing judge and Technical Delegate and took my British Horse Society exams in England.
After 18 years, I moved to San Diego and served as deputy director for the 1984 Olympic Three-Day event. I continued my interest in dressage, helped along the way by several very talented and patient horses as well as dedicated trainers.
I now live east of Seattle and ride five mornings a week, working on my position and the horse's engagement with invaluable help from a group of people at my barn. Without them, I simply couldn’t continue to ride.
